Riding Your Cruiser Motorcycle in the City
Cruiser motorcycles are a convenient way to get around a crowded city, thanks to their compact size and the fact that you can park them virtually anywhere without any trouble. However, riding in the city is very different from riding on a long straight stretch of highway, so you need to be prepared. Here are some tips to keep in mind.
Keep Yourself Visible
The most important thing when riding a cruiser motorcycle in the city is that you can both see and be seen. Black leather riding gear might look cool in the sunshine on the open road, but it makes it much harder to see against a backdrop of narrow streets and buildings. Throwing a bright orange safety vest over your standard riding gear will go a long way toward making you more visible to other motorists. You can also add reflective tape to your helmet, gear, and bike.
Follow the Rules
Swerving through traffic, speeding, and switching lanes are dangerous maneuvers to make anywhere, but they’re especially likely to get you into trouble in a traffic jam downtown. Make more measured maneuvers and avoid speeding when riding your cruiser motorcycle in the city. Keep a good cushion of space between your bike and the vehicles around you.
