Touring motorcycles are in a class all their own. They offer all of the features you’d expect from a cruiser and a lot of additional options for longer trips. Most American and foreign manufacturers have a wide variety of touring motorcycles for sale, and you owe it to yourself to learn as much as you can about touring bikes so that you can make an informed decision. Here are a few questions that you can ask yourself to get started. To learn more, visit SoCal Honda Powersports. We’re located in Carson, California and we serve riders in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California.

How Many Riders?

If it’s just going to be you on the bike, you’re going to find a great selection of smaller touring motorcycles at lower price points. But many of us wouldn’t dream of hitting the open road without our spouse. If you’re planning on traveling together a lot you should shop for motorcycles together. A two passenger touring motorcycle will be more expensive and it’s going to weigh more, but will feature a lot of great comfort features for two up riders.

How Much Storage?

Many touring bike lovers will tell you that once you get the extra storage, you’ll never turn back. Your touring bike gives you the freedom to make every trip an adventure, and it offers you space for clothing, snacks and other essentials. Touring motorcycles have large frames that can support more weight and plenty of storage customization options. Whether you want to have some creature comforts for a long weekend ride or enough supplies for an unplanned “bug out” trip, be sure to plan accordingly when you consider the available storage options for each touring bike model you consider.

Will You Use Your Bike For Commuting?

A touring motorcycle is a great way to make every commute an adventure, but it’s definitely a different type of riding. Even though stop and go rush hour traffic is inconvenient, it’s not as hard on the body as taking a long trip on an undersized bike. Common rider comfort features include windshields, low slung riding positions, ergonomically-designed seats and adjustable backrests. Many of these comfort features are also nice to have on local trips, but you definitely don’t want to go cheap if you’re planning a lot of long distance travel. When we get older we have to find ways to reduce muscular tension and joint pain everywhere we can. Don’t be afraid to spend a little more if it means a more consistently comfortable ride.
