Side by Side Trail Riding Tips
Trail riding in your side by side may be fun, but risky behaviors can result in serious consequences. If you want to avoid injuring yourself and others, you need to act responsibly. These tips from SoCal Honda Powersports can help make your next side by side trail ride a safe yet enjoyable experience.
Stick to Designated Trails
Exploring off-road in your side by side might sound like fun, but it can have serious consequences. Besides the risk that your UTV will hit an obstacle that it isn’t equipped to handle, there’s also a good chance that your side by side will trample vegetation and disturb any animals living nearby. Going off trail while riding on federal or state land is also illegal and can result in a serious fine.
Safety Equipment
Side by side riding gear will help protect you and your passengers in the event of an accident. Your gear should include at the minimum a DOT-certified helmet, goggles that provide anti-fog/UV protection, and full-length clothing.
Be Polite
Finally, always follow basic riding etiquette when trail riding in your side by side. Give other riders the right of way and inform them of how many riders are behind you if you’re riding in a group. If you’re deferring to someone else, move as far over as you safely can. Be sure to alert others if you notice unsafe and/or dangerous trail conditions, and take a second to stop if you see someone by the side of the trail. Make sure they’re just taking a break and not in need of medical or mechanical assistance.
